At the core of stories like Frankenstein and Nosferatu lies a very real and very human element of existence. Much of early vampire folklore was created as a means to understand death and decomposition, providing answers, and sometimes even comfort to those frightened and confused by death. Similarly, if we peel back the layer of gothic horror in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, we find a story about disappointment and failing to measure up to expectations. In these two companion pieces, I have appropriated the format of vintage horror movie posters to draw attention to the real human fears that lie beneath the stories of these iconic horror monsters.
